Escalas Alteradas

This is one freaky scale. I thought a little background on it would be helpful.  Good luck with Lesson 2!
Diatonic Formula Representation
Formula: 1 b2 b3 b4 b5 b6 b7
Alternative Formula Representation
Formula: 1 b9 #9 3  b5 #5 b7
The altered scale is the seventh mode of the melodic minor scale - an altered scale shares the same notes as a melodic minor scale a major 7th below.
Examples: C melodic minor and B altered, A melodic minor and G# altered.
Two formula representations are given above, the first is strictly correct in a diatonic sense however the second is more useful in that it clearly shows how an altered scale can be used over an altered chord. An altered chord is a dominant seventh chord that contains any or any combination of the following:- b5, #5, b9, #9. Here are some examples of altered chords:
C7(b5)
G7(#9)
A7(b5,b9)
Bb7(b9,#9)
Sometimes the chord symol 'alt' is used (example: C7alt). This means the performer can interpret this chord using any combination of the altered tones (b5, #5, b9, #9) that they wish.
Uses for Improvisation
* Any altered dominant chord
* Any dominant chord leading to a minor key
